At the Institute of Mathematics, a position as

PhD Student in Mathematics - Geometry

is to be filled on a part-time basis (50% / 20 hours per week) starting February 1, 2025.

The research group of Prof. Dr. Thomas Wannerer focuses on a broad range of questions arising from convex and integral geometry. Doctoral projects will involve research on questions within this area, with opportunities to delve into various subfields depending on the candidate's interests and the group's ongoing work. Your responsibilities:

    • Conducting independent research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thomas Wannerer, with the goal of completing a PhD degree
    • Contributing to the department's teaching activities, with responsibilities amounting to two semester hours per week
    • Actively participating in the tasks of the research group, including assisting in the organization of scientific conferences and workshops
    • Working on your PhD thesis

Your profile:

    • Outstanding academic performance in a Master's degree program with a strong focus on Mathematics
    • Demonstrated potential for independent research, evidenced by a strong thesis or other significant academic achievements
    • Prior exposure to geometry, such as convex geometry, geometric analysis, or differential geometry

    • Remuneration based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Federal States (TV-L) at / up to salary scale E 13 — depending on the candidate’s personal qualifications—, including a special annual payment in accordance with the collective agreement.
