Within the framework of the interdisciplinary research training group 3040, “Copolymer Informatics: Blending digital technologies and copolymer chemistry – From design to application”, which is funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG), the following position is being offered at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena starting on October 1, 2025:

Coordinator

We offer a part-time position (50%, 20 hours per week), offered as a fixed-term position until (Date: 30 September 2030).

In COIN, computer science as well as robotic methods are to be developed and further optimized so that they can be applied in polymer research and particularly for copolymers. Their application will enable a targeted combination of synthesis, processing and properties of copolymers. In order to achieve this goal, expertise from the fields of synthesis, analytics, polymer chemistry, theoretical chemistry, engineering, computer science and robotics are combined. The qualification program of COIN focuses on targeted training for doctoral candidates at the interface of the scientific disciplines of chemistry, engineering and computer science. A special focus will be on the high degree of interdisciplinarity at a top level in an international context. In this context, you will be responsible for the coordination of the Research Training Group, the establishment of the qualification concept and the national and international networking of COIN.

Your responsibilities:

    • You will be responsible for the coordination of COIN
    • You will establish a subject-specific qualification program for doctoral researchers between the disciplines of chemistry, computer science and engineering
    • You will support the project team in organizational aspects, in particular for the organization of scientific workshops, conferences and summer schools of COIN
    • You create a scientific exchange program for the doctoral researchers, in particular the organization of a scientific lecture program
    • You are primarily responsible for the preparation of scientific reports and public relations
    • Organizing events and communication forums within and outside COIN

Your profile:

    • University degree, ideally in one of the participating disciplines of COIN (chemistry, computer science, engineering science)
    • Fluency in English and German, both in oral and written communication
    • You have an independent, structured, forward-looking and reliable way of working
    • Good organizational skills and the ability to work in a team
    • You are characterized by good communication skills
    • You have already demonstrated confidence and strong communication skills in dealing with domestic and foreign guests
    • Knowledge of internal university administrative structures and processes is an advantage

The advertised position is offered as a fixed-term position until 30.09.2030.

This is a part-time position with 50% of the working hours of a full-time employee (20 hours per week).
