both positions are full-time (40 hours per week) and to be filled für a limited period of 36 months.

The Computer Vision Group (https://inf-cv.uni-jena.de) is internationally active and successful in developing machine learning methods for computer vision and dynamic system analysis. We contribute to the areas of active and continuous learning, 3d and unstructured data processing, anomaly detection, and causal reasoning. Applications and partners currently come from ecological and biodiversity research, earth system science and medicine as well as industry. Our ultimate goal is to develop methods for analyzing, understanding and predicting complex, dynamic sensor data

Both positions are in the area of fine-grained visual categorization and shall continue this successful research through further methodological developments in the areas of knowledge integration in machine learning and multi-modal learning. You will have the opportunities to leverage recent foundation models, e.g., large vision models (LVMs) and vision language models (VLMs), as well as to integrate domain knowledge and uncertainty quantification into the prediction systems. Your research will benefit from collaborations with computer vision and machine learning experts working on related topics within the group as well as from interdisciplinary knowledge exchange with domain experts and project partners.

Your responsibilities:

    • Competitive research and contributions to the research areas of the group, in particular
    • fine-grained visual recognition, knowledge integration, and uncertainty quantification
    • Active collaboration with project partners and development of re-usable open-source software accompanying your research and your developed methods
    • Integration and transfer of research results into further application areas of the group
    • Share your solutions with the research community through a variety of outlets
    • Work on your scientific qualification, e.g., your doctorate

Your profile:

    • Excellent Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field
    • Experience or at least knowledge in computer vision and machine learning
    • C / C++ and/or Python skills and a passion for writing high quality code and experience in programming of larger projects
    • Very good verbal and written English with strong communication skills
    • Experiences with common frameworks and code libraries for machine learning and deep learning are beneficial
    • Ideally you have expertise or knowledge in one of the following areas: fine-grained recognition, foundation models like large vision models (LVMs) or language vision models (VLMs), knowledge integration into machine learning, uncertainty quantification in machine learning

We offer:

    • Remuneration based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector
    • the Federal States (TV-L) at salary scale E13 — depending on the candidate’s personal qualifications—, including a special annual payment in accordance with the collective agreement.
    • Joining a vibrant team of young talented reasearchers, offering a wide range of collaboration options through projects and networks at an interdisciplinary and international level
