The Institute of Geosciences, Professorship of Analytical Mineralogy of Micro- and Nanostructures, seeks to fill the position of a

Research Assistant in Mineralogy

at the earliest possible date (1 April 2025 at the latest) for a fixed-term period of three years.

You will work at the new Research Centre for Energy and Environmental Chemistry (CEEC II) and with the opportunity to implement your own research ideas in the field of geosciences and/or materials science in an interdisciplinary environment. Our research work is aimed at understanding material properties or geoprocesses by micro-analytical (electron microscopy, spectroscopy) investigations. Other areas of work focus on the synthesis of materials under extreme pressures and temperatures and their X-ray characterisation using synchrotons.

Your responsibilities:

    • Realise your own research ideas, preferably in the field of energy, environmental or geological research. The willingness to acquire third-party funding is desirable for the realisation of your projects
    • Support in laboratory management and the set-up of new laboratories
    • Scientific teaching to the extent of 4 LVS is part of your range of tasks

Your profile:

    • Successfully completed doctorate in geosciences or materials science/physics/chemistry
    • Knowledge of methods of solid state analysis, preferably transmission and scanning electron microscopy, spectroscopy and/or diffraction methods are expected
    • Knowledge of synthesis methods at high temperatures and/or pressures as well as experience with the setup and operation of laboratories/large-scale equipment is advantageous

The advertised position is (initially) temporary. If suitable, further employment for an unlimited period is possible.

In principle, the job is also suitable for part-time employment. The extent to which a part-time request can be granted, in particular with regard to the location and scope of the part-time work, will be assessed on the basis of the needs of the service.
