At the Institute of Mathematics, a position as

PhD Student in Mathematics - Differential Geometry

is to be filled on a part-time basis (75% / 30 hours per week) starting October 1, 2024.

The research group of Prof. Dr. Thomas Wannerer is engaged in, among other things, the investigation of generalizations of the classical isoperimetric inequality. Recently, significant progress has been made in the study of these inequalities using methods from convex geometry, differential geometry, and spectral theory (https://arxiv.org/abs/2312.12294). Possible doctoral projects will continue these investigations. Further information about the research group can be found at https://users.fmi.uni-jena.de/~wannerer/.

Your responsibilities:

    • Research at the intersection of convex geometry, differential geometry, and spectral theory.
    • Teaching responsibilities amounting to three semester hours per week.
    • Participation in the tasks of the research group, such as assisting in the organization of scientific conferences.
    • Working on your PhD thesis.

Your profile:

    • Successfully completed Master's degree with a focus on Mathematics.
    • Interest in questions at the intersection of geometry and analysis.
    • Ideally, you already have basic knowledge in differential geometry.
