The Faculty of Physics and Astronomy / Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research seeks to fill the position of a

Researcher in Computational Materials Science

commencing on November 1st, 2024.

We are offering a full-time position (40 hours per week) for two years, with the possibility of extending for up to three additional years.

Join our dynamic team and play a crucial role in developing innovative computational and data-driven methods for modeling and simulating advanced materials, with a special emphasis on high entropy and optical materials. This exciting position also includes teaching responsibilities in the area of computational materials science for both B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs. Habilitation opportunities are available if desired.

Your responsibilities:

    • Independently develop and implement cutting-edge computational and data-driven methods for materials modeling and simulations
    • Conduct interdisciplinary research in the field of advanced materials, particularly high entropy and optical materials
    • Teach and mentor students in computational materials science within B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs
    • Co-supervise and supervise PhD students
    • Acquire third-party research funding

Your profile:

    • PhD degree in Material Science or a related field, including chemistry, physics, mathematics, or computer science
    • Strong background in computational materials science
    • Proven experience in scientific programming, ideally in Fortran, is essential
    • Very good communication skills in English
    • Passion for teaching and mentoring students
    • Desire for habilitation is a plus
