The Seminar for Indo-European Studies at the Institut of of Near Eastern Studies, Indo-European Studies and the Archaeology of Prehistory to the Early Middle Ages seeks to fill the position of a

lecturer and researcher in Indo-Europan Studies

commencing on 1st of October, 2025
We offer full-time position (40 hours per week) initially offered as a fixed-term position for three years.

Your responsibilities:

    • Independently teach courses in Indo-European Studies (mainly seminars, 4 teaching hours)
    • Independent research activity, particularly working on your own scientific qualification project, e.g. habilitation
    • Participation in student counseling and the organization of studies in the field of Indo-European studies (B.A. and M.A.)
    • Support in application management, third-party funded project management, and in the procurement of literature

Your profile:

    • Completed university degree and a doctorate (PhD. degree) in Indo-European linguistics or an equivalent linguistic discipline
    • Experience in University teaching in the field of linguistics
    • We expect good knowledge of serveal ancient Indo-European languages and the methods of historical-comparative linguistics
    • Ideally, you have an interest in interdisciplinary research and experiences in international scientific collaboration

We offer:

    • Remuneration based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Federal States (TV-L) at salary scale E12 — depending on the candidate’s personal qualifications—, including a special annual payment in accordance with the collective agreement.

In principle, the job is also suitable for part-time employment. The extent to which a part-time request can be granted, in particular with regard to the location and scope of the part-time work, will be assessed on the basis of the needs of the service.
