Friedrich Schiller University is a traditional university with a strong research profile rooted in the heart of Germany. As a university covering all disciplines, it offers a wide range of subjects. Its research is focused on the areas Light—Life—Liberty. It is closely networked with non-research institutions, research companies and renowned cultural institutions. With around 18,000 students and more than 8,600 employees, the university plays a major role in shaping Jena’s character as a cosmopolitan and future-oriented city.

The Institute for Technical Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry seeks to fill the position of a

Research associate in the field of
ultrasound spectroscopy and artificial intelligence

part-time (50 % / 20 hours per week) for a limited period until 31.12.2024.

The AG Bräutigam (https://www.braeutigam-group.uni-jena.de/) deals with various environmentally relevant issues and the research and development of corresponding technical-chemical approaches to solutions.
In a project funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation, an innovative sensor system based on ultrasonic attenuation spectroscopy is to be developed for medical applications (https://www.braeutigam-group.uni-jena.de/forschung/andere). For this purpose, various transmitter-receiver systems are to determine information about the fluid inside a tube from outside without contact. The spectroscopic data obtained will then be correlated with various physico-chemical properties and medical parameters using artificial intelligence methods.

Your responsibilities:

    • Development of an ultrasonic attenuation spectrometric method
    • Investigation and optimisation of the measurement principle depending on external factors
    • Spectra evaluation and correlation with artificial intelligence methods
    • Work on own scientific qualification project (doctorate)
    • Publikation in wissenschaftlichen Publication in scientific journals

Your profile:

    • completed engineering or scientific studies, preferably in the field of physics, acoustics, physical technology, medical technology or a similar subject area
    • Knowledge of ultrasound, ultrasound spectroscopy, artificial intelligence
    • Open communication and the ability to work in a team
    • Ideally solid language skills in German and English

We offer:

    • Remuneration based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Federal States (TV-L) at salary scale E13 — depending on the candidate’s personal qualifications—, including a special annual payment in accordance with the collective agreement.
    • lexible working hours (after consultation/flextime and teleworking if necessary)
    • A Graduate Academy for doctoral candidates and postdocs
    • A family-friendly working environment with a variety of offers for families: University Family Office ‘JUniFamilie’ and flexible childcare (‘JUniKinder)

    • 30 days of recreational leave in the calendar year plus two days off for Dec. 24 and Dec. 31

The advertised position is initially limited until 31.12.2024, an extension may be possible. This is a part-time position of 50% (20 hours per week). Severely disabled persons will be given preferential consideration in case of equal suitability, ability and professional qualification.
