Within the framework of the SFB Transregio 294 ‘Structural Change of Property’ of the Universities of Jena and Erfurt, at the Institute of Sociology, Chair of Environmental Sociology, in sub-project C03 ‘Energy transition as a property transition? Dynamics of appropriation in the European wind energy expansion’ as of 01.04.2025 as a

Research associate/ PhD student

as a part-time postdoc (50% / 20 hours per week) or as a doctoral student (65% / 26 hours per week) limited until 31 December 2028.

The sub-project, led by Prof Matthias Groß, is investigating the influence of regulatory, economic, cultural and technical framework conditions on the ownership of wind energy in a country comparison (Great Britain, Portugal, Germany). The aim is to work out the characteristics and dynamics of differently organized ownership structures in the field of wind energy and to identify implications for the access and disposal rights of municipalities and local populations.

Your responsibilities:

    • Planning, conducting and evaluating various surveys with stakeholders in the field of wind energy in Great Britain and Portugal
    • Independent structuring and coordination of subtasks in the project
    • Regular publications in high-ranking international journals and publishers
    • Work on your own scientific qualification project, doctorate or habilitation (depending on level of experience)
    • Participation in the research tasks as well as the preparation and implementation of events of the interdisciplinary SFB "Structural Change in Property"

Your profile:

    • Successfully completed studies or successfully completed doctorate in sociology or a related discipline (depending on level of experience)
    • Knowledge of comparative environmental and cultural sociology as well as Science and Technology Studies (STS)
    • Experience with collecting and analyzing qualitative data
    • Interest in developing theories of property related to energy and the environment
    • Interest in active participation in interdisciplinary research contexts
    • proficient knowledge of the English language
    • Desirable: Portuguese language skills
    • Desirable: Previous experience in the field of wind energy

    • Remuneration in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L) in accordance with personal requirements according to pay group E13 including a special annual payment

In principle, the job is also suitable for part-time employment. The extent to which a part-time request can be granted, in particular with regard to the location and scope of part-time work, will be assessed on the basis of the needs of the position.

This is a part-time position at a rate of 50% (postdoc, 20 hours per week) or at a rate of 65 % (doctoral candidate, 26 hours per week).
