The DFG-funded Cluster of Excellence Balance of the Microverse (microverse-cluster.de) combines expertise in life, material, optical and computational sciences to elucidate fundamental principles of the interactions and functions in microbial communities in diverse habitats. The Microverse Cluster has recently appointed multiple new research groups. To support the computational activities of the groups of Prof. Dr. Rosalind Allen (Theoretical Microbial Ecology) and Prof. Dr. Ute Hellmich (Biostructural Interactions) we seek a:

Computer System Administrator (m/f/d)

We are looking for:

A computer system administrator to set up and manage computers, and assist in data management, for researchers within the Microverse cluster of excellence.

Your responsibilities:

• Set up and manage desktop and laptop computers for the two Microverse research groups (hardware and software).
• Manage data storage and backup for personal computers and laboratory equipment.
• Manage the selection of computer equipment, in coordination with group leaders, and be responsible for acquisition and the support/warrant issues.
• Act as liaison between the Microverse groups and the University Computing Centre (URZ)
• Train and assist group members in usage of the hardware and software and in data management.

Your profile:

• A BSc or Diplomstudium in informatics or a related topic (alternatively: proven experience in the required skills)
• Experience with different operating systems (Linux, Windows, Mac).
• Experience with best practice in data storage and data stewardship.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Java or R is an advantage
• Ability to communicate at intermediate level or above in German and/or English.
• Strong motivation, excellent organisation skills and ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others.

This part-time position (20 hours per week) is initially for two years with the possibility to be extended subject to suitability.
