The department of Biochemistry at the Center for Molecular Biomedicine (CMB) seeks to fill the position of a

Research Assistant / Doctoral Candidate (f/m/x)

to the next possible date. We offer part-time position (65%) limited until 30 June 2026.

Within the Biochemistry Department, research of the Heinzel lab focuses on the investigation of the molecular mechanisms of gene regulation, in particular repression of transcription. As our new Doctoral Candidate, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our DFG-funded project that is part of the CRC 1127 “ChemBioSys”.

Your responsibilities:

• You will perform Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) experiments to investigate the binding of the transcription factor BasR to biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs)
• Conduct Avidin Biotin Complex DNA (ABCD) assays to identify ors BGC- and BasR-binding proteins
• Characterization of newly identified proteins
• Molecular cloning of the filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans
• Conduct interdisciplinary research within the CRC 1127 “ChemBioSys”
• Investigate BGCs regulated by the HDAC SirE using ChIP experiments

Your profile:

• We expect highly motivated and qualified candidates
• University degree (M. Sc. or diploma) with focus on Biochemistry/Microbiology/Molecular Biology or a similar program
• Good knowledge of Microbiology is an advantage
• Experience in the field of epigenetics would be desirable
