The Institute of Geosciences, Analytical Mineralogy seeks to fill the position of a
Research Assistant Simulation impact events
at the earliest possible date. We offer part-time position (65%, 26 hours per week) a fixed-term position for 3 years.
You will work with X-ray diffraction and electron microscopic methods at the new Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry (CEEC II) and will also have the opportunity to conduct innovative time-resolved high-pressure experiments at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY. Your project will focus on the experimental simulation of impact events and the pressure-induced amorphization and polymorphic phase transformations of silicates that occur during these processes.
Your profile:
- Successfully completed master´s degree in geosciences, materials science, physics, or chemistry
- You have programming skills in Python for evaluating large amounts of data
- You have basic knowledge of high-pressure processes as well as X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy
- Very good written and spoken English skills are required; good German skills are advantageous
- Your duties will require frequent travel to the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY and participation in scientific conferences in Germany and abroad
